Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, aka C/2023 A3 is a long-period comet all the way from the Oort cloud, a vast region of icy debris similar to the Kuiper Belt, but over 50 times farther out. The comet was discovered on January 9th, 2023 by the Purple Mountain Observatory in China, and independently by ATLAS on February 22nd, 2023. It made its closest approach to Earth at about 25 million miles away, and made world headlines as the "great comet of 2024", a well-deserved title for this beautiful comet. It even sported an "anti-tail", a faint trail of dust that in my photo looks like "headlights" in front of the comet.
